The Wilmette Institute is pleased to announce that Dr. Moojan Momen has agreed to serve as Chair of the Department of Religion, Philosophy, and Theology for 2018–19. He has published books on a variety of religious traditions, such as Hinduism and the Bahá’í Faith, Buddhism and the Bahá’í Faith, and The Bahá’í Faith and Islam. He also has a distinguished career as a scholar of the Bábí and Bahá’í Faiths, having authored scores of books and articles, one of the latest of which is The History of the Bahá’í Faith in Iran, vol. 1: Northern Iran. He has taught courses on Islam, Shi‘ism, Bahá’u’lláh’s writings, the Báb’s writings, and Bahá’í history for the Wilmette Institute. In 2015, during the Wilmette Institute’s twentieth year, he was a speaker in its inaugural Web Talk series, discussing The Dawn-Breakers in “The Re-Creation and Utilization of a Community’s Memories: Shoghi Effendi and Bahá’í History.”
The Institute is very grateful to Dr. Mikhail Sergeev, who served as the first chair of the department and organized the first dialogue with a non-Bahá’í “Interreligious Dialogue: Myths and Reality,” an interview with Professor Leonard Swidler, a pioneer of interreligious dialogue from a Catholic perspective. Because of heavy duties at his university, Dr. Sergeev is unable to continue as chair.
