Peter Smith has a PhD in the Sociology of Religion from the University of Lancaster in the UK, and has published a number of academic books and articles relating to Bahá’í Studies. He is an Associate Professor at Mahidol University International College (MUIC), a component part of Mahidol University, Thailand, where he teaches courses in Modern World History, the History of Social Thought, and the History of Psychology. Before his semi-retirement, he was also a university administrator.

His publications in Bahá’í Studies include:

  • The Babi and Bahá’í Religions: From Messianic Shi’ism to a World Religion (Cambridge University Press, 1987);
  • The Bahá’í Faith: A Short History (Oneworld, 1996);
  • A Concise Encyclopedia of the Bahá’í Faith (Oneworld, 2000);
  • An Introduction to the Bahá’í Faith (Cambridge University Press, 2008).
