International Foundation for Electoral Systems

Vasu Mohan has over 20 years of experience in democracy, governance and human rights programming in Asia with a focus on political, social and legal empowerment of the disenfranchised – youth, women, ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities. He leads Asia programs at the  International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) where he has been since 2001. He has supervised programs and field offices in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Timor Leste.

Mohan was responsible for IFES’ Women’s Legal Rights Initiative and Garima Projects in India (2003 – 2011), a program on violence against women and gender equality/women’s empowerment, which focused on expanding the dialogue on women’s rights and legal resources available to women. He has also served in various voluntary capacities related to women’s empowerment including service as Member of the Board of Directors for the Tahirih Justice Center, a non-profit working to protect immigrant women and girls seeking justice in the United States from gender-based violence.
