Nahid N. Shams was born and raised in a Bahá’í family in Tehran, Iran. After the revolution of 1979 and an upbringing with oppression and persecution, she left Iran for Pakistan. There she met her future husband, and they decided to start a life in Brazil as Bahá’í pioneers, and they have two adult children.
She has been serving on several local and regional institutions, and for over 25 years has been serving in the education and empowerment of families, children, and junior youth. As a psychologist, the focus of her work is positive influence, prevention, and quality of life. She finds these methods empower and help families in their formative stages.
She is now a Relationship and Marriage Educator, certified as a coach by Life Innovations to offer couples their PREPARE/ENRICH readiness to marry and marriage well-being assessments. She serves as Portuguese-language faculty for the Wilmette Institute Relationship and Marriage courses along with co-faculty Fariba Vahdat.
