“Therefore strive that your actions day by day
may be beautiful prayers.”

Christine Muller (faculty for the Wilmette Institute’s Climate Change and Sustainable Development and the Prosperity of Humankind courses) continues to give us monthly tips aimed at helping us to live more socially and environmentally responsible lives and to treat our physical world with the respect it deserves. We hope that, as we make these tips a part of our habits, we will collectively be mitigating the severity of climate change, reducing human suffering, and keeping the Earth a livable place for the next generations.—THE EDITORS

Use Energy-Efficient Appliances

by Christine Muller

One easy way to save energy is to buy energy-efficient appliances. If your refrigerator is old, it would be best to replace it with a new energy-efficient model. Energy-efficient washing machines save energy as well as water: “If you’re not using an ENERGY STAR certified clothes washer, you’re wasting 6 gallons of water every time you wash.” “Choosing an ENERGY STAR certified washer saves you enough money to pay for the dryer.” You may not want to replace your dryer though, because dryers use a lot of energy. It is much better to hang up your clothes to dry. Of course, if you do use a dryer often, it is very much worth the investment to choose an energy-efficient model. It is always wise to choose energy efficiency as a first priority when buying any appliance. Click here for more information about Energy Efficient Appliances.
