THE LAMP and WINEWS
The Lamp is the bimonthly newsletter of the Wilmette Institute. The Lamps title is derived from a phrase in the Institute's motto, "make me ... a lamp of Thy knowledge among Thy creatures." Mailed free to all enrolled students, faculty, staff, and friends of the Wilmette Institute, The Lamp publishes the latest news about the expansion of the Wilmette Institute, important decisions of the Board, and reports of student efforts and news. It also publishes information about courses in progress, notifies its readers about Bahá'í scholarly conferences, and has a column on "Studying the Revelation." The Lamp also occasionally publishes short poems and other works by students. Articles are welcomed and should be sent to the registrar. The Lamp is also available on the website at http://wilmetteinstitute.org/lamps and by email.
The Wilmette Institute operates a mailing list called "WiNews" for announcements, notification of upcoming courses, and The Lamp. Announcements are sent out a few times per year, and The Lamp is sent out quarterly. To subscribe to WiNews and receive The Lamp, you can either send a blank email to subscribe-winews@lists.usbnc.org, or you can go to the WiNews website.
THE WEBSITE
The Wilmette Institutes web site may be found at http://wilmetteinstitute.org. It is maintained by Jonah Winters and updated frequently. In addition to providing information about upcoming courses and public resources for study of the Faith, the website contains valuable material for students enrolled in current Wilmette Institute courses. Each course has a private page from which its students can access information on how to contact other students and key curricular materials. When a student turns in an assignment, the assignment is posted (without the students name attached) on a private page for that particular assignment, and the student is provided with the assignments address. The assignments page also contains a master of the homework assignment.
THE AUTOMATED, 24-HOUR PHONE LINE
By calling (847) 733-3595, individuals can learn about Wilmette Institute course offerings twenty-four hours a day, and can leave messages for the registrar requesting information. The opening menu lists further information on the Spiritual Foundations for a Global Civilization program, correspondence courses, and courses on the Persian language.
This phone line may be discontinued sometime in 2000, at which time the Wilmette Institute will be getting a toll-free number. If you call this number and it has been disconnected, write to the registrar to find out the new number.
